Makita XSH03 6-1/2″ Brushless 18V LXT Circular Saw

The brand new Makita XSH03 6-1/2″ Circular Saw is a big upgrade over previous models, and features an extremely powerful and efficient brushless motor that gives it extreme power & unreal run times.

Over the last couple weeks we have used this particular saw a lot, and put it through extensive run time testing through OSB Plywood & 2x4s…..the results speak for themselves…..the Makita flat-out gets the absolute most cuts per charge out of any cordless circular saw on the market today — we almost ran out of wood before the XSH03 ran out of power.Makita_XSH03Z_Product_Shot__500

The run times/cuts-per-charge that we got were (4.0ah batteries & new blades):

7/16″ OSB = 108 cuts (432 linear feet)
2×4 = 374 cuts (over 59% more cuts that next highest competitor)

Unlike most of the larger saws, this one has a left hand blade orientation.  Until recently I was not really a fan of this design/style, but the more I use it — the more I like it.  I am right handed & it makes following a line extremely easy since I can see the front of the blade the entire time.

Another big advantage other than the amount of cuts per charge is going to be the weight.  With a battery installed, this is coming in at just over 7lbs —- compare that to the 10-11 lb average of the 7-1/4″ cordless circular saws (roughly 50% more weight).  You are not going to get nearly as tired/sore with all day use like you would with one of the larger saws.  So, if the cut capacity of the 6-1/2″ blade will work for what you are doing…..you may want to consider the trade off between that & the added run-times & reduced weight.BL1840

This is one of the newest offerings in the Makita 18v LXT lineup, and the batteries & charger (in the kit) are going to be compatible with over 100 other tools in the Makita lineup.  If you already own some 18v LXT tools, and dont need additional batteries — get the XSH03Z — but, if you need batteries/charger, get the kit XSH03M.
