Rockwell Bladerunner X2

For the DIYer or Homeowner that enjoys working on projects or building things, the BladeRunner X2 may really speed things up for you. It has a very simple and easy to use design that uses a wide variety of standard jigsaw blades to cut through things like wood, metal, plastic, or even ceramic tiles!

To make very straight and precise cuts, Rockwell includes a rip fence & a miter gauge. This really makes it easy to cut straight lines, or even angle cuts that are next to impossible to make accurately freehand.

Here are some quick specs on the BladeRunner X2 :

  • 14.7 lbs
  • 17″ x 15″ Work Surface
  • Uses standard “t-shank” Jigsaw Blades
  • On-board storage for Miter Gauge, Rip Fence, and extra blades
  • Tool-free Blade Change
  • Shop-vac compatible for dust removal
  • 3-yr warranty

The cutting capacities are :

  • Wood – 1-1/2″
  • PVC – 1-1/4″
  • Ceramic – 3/8″
  • Steel – 1/8″
  • Aluminum – 1/8″

When it comes to long rip-cuts, especially with something like pre-finished laminate flooring — it works like a charm.  No need to buy an expensive table saw just to make a few rip cuts on either side of the room, this can do that with ease.  In the video we actually put that to the test, and a 3′ long cut slides through without issues.

Match up your blade selection (wood, metal, plastic, etc) with the material you are cutting through, and get right to work!

As far as some tips — I would suggest taking your time and going slow (not forcing the cut).  You should always keep in mind that the small teeth on the blades need time to actually carry the dust away, or your cut will suffer.  Also, because it is using standard jigsaw blades — too much pressure can cause them to flex to the left or right, which will result in uneven edges.

The biggest issue that we had with it was vibration.  However, simply taking two 3″ drywall screws and a couple small washers — we fastened it to a sheet of plywood (or maybe in your garage a workbench) and the vibrations cut back at least 90%.

This is a simple, easy-to-use, and easy-to-learn power tool.  Unlike circular saws, miter saws, or table saws….the chances of you accidentally hurting yourself are minimal.  I would always suggest wearing eye-protection & hearing-protection.  Be sure to not have gloves or other loose fitting clothing (such as sleeves) near the blade, so you don’t accidentally get caught up in it while it is running!
