Ryobi 40V Brushless 20″ Mower RY40170

For anyone considering a switch from a gas powered mower to a battery powered one, the Ryobi 40v Brushless Mower is a great choice. It comes in at a very affordable price, it has a 5yr warranty (with registration), and includes 2 of the 40v high capacity batteries. So, if you are interested in some other cordless outdoor tools, those same batteries can power everything else in the Ryobi 40v lineup.

Some of the features include :

  • 20″ cutting width
  • 1-1/4″ – 3-3/4″ cut height
  • 45 lbs
  • Up to a 1-1/2 hour runtime (combined with the two batteries in ideal conditions)

For those with an in-town lot, or even a small yard — cordless is the way to go! The batteries charge relatively quickly, emit no fumes, and will never clog up your carburetor (since it doesnt have one!). A very nice bonus by going electric VS gas is the fact that there is no more buying gas, storing gas, or smelling fumes….you could literally park this in your living room & the smells would be non-existent.

Although it is not self-propelled, it is very light (roughly 45 lbs) & is very easy to push over flat or moderately sloping terrain. I have heard complaints about the cordless mowers lacking that function, but honestly I dont think that it is needed since they are so light (compared to a metal framed gas version).

I have personally mowed with the Ryobi through 10+ battery charges, and my friend has used it for almost 2 months now on a weekly basis … with no complaints. The one and only issue that I have seen is that when/if you are cutting very high or wet grass, the mower has the “work” a lot harder (using more power) & the batteries die faster. As long as you are cutting dry & relatively maintained grass, the Ryobi will be a great choice!
